Debate on Plant Improvement Bill [B8B-2015]: 21 November 2017

Posted in: on 21/11/2017 | Categorised as

  1. HON. Members, the Minority Front supports the Plant Improvement Bill, 2015, with some reservations.
  2. The definition of “pack” to the Bill is important as there are too little labelling on our goods.
  3. With respect to page 17 relating to “Refusal for national listing” section 36, should include research conducted. HON. Speaker, who is the designated standards authority in section 38?
  4. The administrative process under section 42 (a) to (d) does not specify where samples will be taken to. There must be designated testers for the state.
  5. The import of plants and propagating material in page 21 under section 43 (7) (a) does not take into account chemicals, and fertilizer.
  6. The right to appeal in page 23 section 47 implies written appeal, but surely an online system would be beneficial. The composition of the appeal board and membership in page 24 under section 48 is very male dominant and is biased against women.
  7. With this concerns the MF supports the Plant Improvement Bill.

Thank you.
