Local Government and Traditional Affairs

Mrs S Thakur-Rajbansi

Thank you Hon. MEC, for the back to basics program, the training of councillors to gain CPD points; however some councillors still remain without matric; hence this should be compulsory.

My concern Hon. MEC is the learnerships which are not well advertised in all areas, so youth miss out on opportunities of employment.

More must be done to bring about awareness to save water since lots has been done for electricity saving.

A study has to be undertaken to understand canalisation, especially in CBD’s.

Finally the suspension of contractors must be looked into, some as long as 6 years and even if they have been absolved of any wrong; they are not reinstated on the municipal database, denying them of specialised work opportunities.

The MF supports this budget.

Thank you
