Human Rights Day – Informal Settlements

Hon Speaker, I shall move as follows,

Noting that, the land grab scenario in Chatsworth is concerning with criminal activity and devaluation of the surrounding houses,

Further noting that, slow progress with the Slum Clearance Act; the Lamosa judgement stalling land reform and the slow negotiations of the Ingonyama Trust Land, have fuelled tension, chaos and lawlessness in the area,

This Hon. House invites discourse on initiating a temporary strategy aimed at humanely housing the informal dwellers and rehabilitate the area until the issue is resolved. Importantly, the quota of 50 houses from 300 built must go to Indian families.
