The Minority Front is shocked to learn of the heinous killing of a 9-year-old girl who was shot during an attempted hijacking in Shallcross this morning.

The incident which comes in the wake of Child protection week commemorations is a travesty.

The Minority Front calls on state security agencies to act swiftly to bring all perpetrators to justice so that this type of happenings do not reoccur. Our community is ravaged by carnage as a result of theft, carjacking and social ills. More needs to be done to ensure the safety of our children. The Minority Front will be writing to the Departments of Social Development and Education to provide counseling to the learners and teachers at the school where the incident happens and especially for those closely associated with the learner. We are also calling the Department of Safety and security to increase police visibility around all public schools particularly in the mornings and afternoons when schools terminate.

Finally, the MF sends our sincere condolences to the family, peers and educators of the deceased girl and pray Gods comfort during this difficult time.
