Youth Day Commemoration Debate

  1. Speaker, The Minority Front believes that the future prospects of born – free youth looks bleak but can be turned around by our inputs, as per our previous debate in Pongola.
  2. If educational qualifications of Youth are doubted, each one of them have no future. As government we need to come up with a 10 point plan for the social, economic and educational plan for our youth. Only in this way, can the NDP and SDG 2030 visions be achieved.
  3. More has to be done in health awareness on disease prevention, contraception and family planning for the youth.
  4. The incubator programmes to enhance skills development among the youth population is vital. The resolution on the R50 Million set aside by Economic development, needs a business project plan and must be treated as a ring – fenced grant since youth complained that 3 months has elapsed and not a word or information is forthcoming on this R50 million. In my SOPA debate, the HON. Premier assured me that the incubator plan was in place. Why no movement HON. Premier? This Hon. House and the Economic Development Portfolio committee need to produce the roll-out plan.
  5. In conclusion, the Minority Front youth rendered recommendations (a) to (e). Can these be adopted and implemented with respect to a more labour intensive economy, immigration reform; reforming basic education and strengthening vocational education in particular.

Thank you
