Youth Association Hosts Empowerment Session
The Minority Front Youth Association recently hosted youth empowerment programmes throughout Phoenix and Surrounding areas. The Programme which featured United States Author and Motivational Speaker, Dr Rosalind Y Tompkins took place at Crystal Point Secondary School in Phoenix. The programme aimed to strengthen the confidence levels of teenagers and establish a foundation for young people to explore their leadership abilities.
Minority Front Leader, Mrs Shameen Thakur Rajbansi said “The association has always impacted the community in a very tangible way. Its mandate is to ensure that it reaches into the community and assists in developing young people in different social, economic, spiritual and political spheres. This initiative in particular is one that is gladly welcomed by my office, as Dr Tompkins is a Leader who’s material has been used by institutions around the world. She is a relevant and dynamic speaker who deals with current issues.”
Leader of the Minority Front Youth wing, Jonathan Annipen said that he was delighted with the response received from youth in the community. “Young people were so receptive and had a genuinely keen interest in attending these seminars. With societal ills such as suicide, abortion, promiscuity, teenage pregnancy, drug and alcohol abuse and the likes, it is imperative that we intervene and change the course of our young people. We are dealing with an indiscriminate generation, who have information so easily accessible to them, however too little of it is actually educational. I fear that if we continue without sounding an alarm of caution and creating leaders of substance we will contribute to an already fragmented society. Therefore hosting these workshops with Dr Tompkins, enable us to make a meaningful impact on our children.”
