  1. HON. Members,  we must all embrace the ideals of O. R. Tambo, who, as a leader was a staunch advocate for morally principled and selfless leadership.
  2. This icon, put the needs of the people first, with no personal desires for power and money, at a time of much danger in our history of white minority oppression.
  3. HON. Members, therefore we need to engage all our citizens meaningfully, through peaceful dialogue to find mutual solutions to the current challenges faced by our nation, senseless killings and other crimes, which would not make the tall leaders we have been gifted with proud.
  4. We can only do this, by nurturing and mentoring each other and by empowering our youth for positive actions. For this, we must look at the promises of the Freedom Charter that O. R. Tambo endorsed and the leaders who followed.
  5. As a nation, we owe a debt of gratitude to him for advocating the rights of women. Our constitution acknowledges of him, embracing gender sensitivity.
  6. HON. Members, O.R. Tambo’s legacy remains the Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Foundation and fund raising from the international community to give children shelter and education which is continuing.
  7. In upholding the memory of O. R.Tambo, let’s all by advance South Africa as a collective and move forward as a united force to liberate the country economically but within the rule of law, as the black African majority leadership have huge shoes to fill in treating all minorities in a manner that will make our hard fought democracy succeed.
  8. In the name of O. R. Tambo, let’s get back to basics and have a good story to tell. Let us all be powered by principle and not position.

Thank you
