Debate on the KZN Funding of Represented Political Parties Act Repeal Bill 2021

Posted in: on 26/03/2021 | Categorised as

  1. The MF supports the Repeal of the KZN Funding of Represented Political Parties Act 2008 with the following recommendations:
    1. The implication of complying with the Act requires a timeline and framework to be given by the Provincial Treasury and Legislature, after consultation with accounting officers, to enable proper close-out reports of this fund and 6 months is sufficient.
    2. We hope all Hon.MECswill open a constituency office in the districts they champion.
    3. Hon. Speaker, whilst the implication of the National Political Funding Act benefits smaller political parties, the KZN Act was the main ‘special purpose vehicle’ as such for service delivery supplementation, where government department responses were weak or lacking. Hence, the MF awaits the widening of the scope or criteria for the use of reallocated funds.
  2. Thank you.
