Debate on the KZNL amended Standing Rules

Posted in: on 26/11/2021 | Categorised as

  1. Hon. members, the Minority Front has studied the amendment to the rules and we agree that these amendments are progressive and those to cut costs, especially the discussion for the one opening day for the Legislature. The Monarchy can be accommodated on the same day with precedents set. It can be done as we want peaceful coexistence in KZN.
  2. The only rule, that as minority parties the MF still doesn’t support is the limited time we get, i.e.: one minute. This Hon. House has always had 80 members and the number of parties have not been constant, but small parties had a minimum of 3 minutes to debate and off course more time in longer debates. This precedent should continue for fairness. The MF welcomes, more accountability measures in this Hon. House.
  3. The MF also believes that two other areas needs going back to the rules, in terms of the dont’s in social media usage and any abuse of women MPL’s in the workplace.
  4. The MF supports amendments to the Rules with these recommendations.
  5. Thank you.
