I will concentrate on the 2015 UN theme, “From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Make Education Safe for All”, recognising that education is a public good and a fundamental human right; quoting the Hon. Chair, Ms Tambo.
The MF notes with concern that in 2014, Child Abuse was highest in KZN and many of our schools, faced the most abused claims.
The MF acknowledges the DOE, guidelines to manage child abuse but it is time to carry out a situational analysis of children with disabilities. The common problems faced by learners in our special needs schools and to track who the regular offenders are, should be the aims.
The MF calls for strengthening of the DOE guidelines in this regard. This is something the portfolio committee should do a focussed intervention study on and the outcomes reported to this House. This is targeted Activism, Hon. Members.
Thank you.
