MF State of the Province Address Debate

REVIEW OF THE COST OF LAW MAKING:

This being the 20th Year of Democracy, the MF calls on the executive to give a clear directive on laws, policies and programs, with the view to talking to NDP 2030. The MF argument is based on the fact that, law-making and regulations is an expensive process, stated Mrs Rajbansi.

Let’s look at what will work and let’s start economic and people development in earnest, for the next 20 years, said Mrs Rajbansi.

MINORITY RIGHTS:

Hon. Premier, Minority Rights are internationally recognised and are human rights and I agree, just not simply symbolic, hence the MF denounces attacks on farm workers who are a minority on a farm but similarly, the illegal Mazibuye forum must be disbanded, stated Mrs Rajbansi.

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION AND SOCIAL COHESION:

The MF calls for the scrapping of Affirmative Action which has a sunset clause of 2014. This policy was fair for the last 20 years as a policy for previously disadvantaged but now for the born-frees is discriminatory and SA now needs its talented youth, stated Mrs Rajbansi.

If social cohesion and nation-building is the goal of the government, then the ANC must review this policy and advise government, she said.

EDUCATION AND EASTERN LANGUAGES:

Education policies at university level must be reviewed and the quota policy must now be scrapped. SA needs all its brain power to develop its human capacity first, then only its physical capacity will materialise and economic development will actually take place, giving the economic growth targets, stated Mrs Rajbansi.

Eastern Language policy must be clear, similar to all other mother-tongue languages to first foster cultural education to achieve formal western education to add value and quality to our education system. It is not about infrastructure, true education is about a cultural awakening of identity and creating innovation to advance economic development, said Mrs Rajbansi.

HOUSING:

Housing, is key to developing families. Mrs Rajbansi applauded, His Majesty the King for co-operating on land release, and added that this should, not only be for commercial activities, but also for building homes.

Land ownership for all and title-deed transfers, will spur the economy by releasing dead capital, she said.

FOOD SECURITY:

2014 being the Year of Food Security, must be viewed with the MF’s concern about the AfgriSa sale to foreign investors, selling out our food security to the West, stated Mrs Rajbansi.

JOB CREATION:

Job creation will only find permanence with equal opportunities and real inclusiveness not adverse inclusion, said Mrs Rajbansi. The MF supports the Jozini bio-fuel plant, because it means job creation and cheaper fuel for our people.

HEALTH – NHI:

The MF is committed to the NHI, for the health of all, but the NHI fund needs private sector and social benefactor by-in, stated Mrs Rajbansi.
