Women’s Representation

Madam Speaker,

I shall move on the next sitting day as follows,

Noting that, the 30% target set by the 1995 Beijing Platform of Action, has inspired the active 50-50 campaigns in Africa,

Further noting, that gender sensitive parliaments are those that take initiative, to address parliament as a workplace, calls on this Hon. House to amend its political party rules and the MPWC members to lobby for Electoral Reform, for political parties to ensure electoral parity, i.e. 50% women and men, a closed party list with alternating inclusion mechanism, to ensure compliance with Section 1(3) (e); 2.4 (1) (e); 3.7(2) and 3.9(1) of the Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equity Bill (2013).

Gender equity must be achieved first then only will gender equality (SDG5) be realised.
