The theme for 2024, International mother tongue language day, the 21 February is: “Multilingual education is a pillar of intergenerational learning”. The Minority Front supports all mother tongue languages in South Africa. We want to encourage the Indian communities to learn their mother tongue language and be proud to speak it.Our Indian languages are slowly dying as people are not speaking or promoting them, hence people not learning the languages. There are organizations that offer lessons to learn and speak Hindi, Tamil, Gujarati, Telugu and Urdu. Grab this opportunity and learn our indigenous languages. Do not depend on someone else to translate or interpret our language for us.
Remember the struggles our fore-fathers faced for us to be where we are in life. Honour them by promoting your mother tongue language as they brought our mother tongue as slaves in the 1860’s.
We encourage parents and grandparents to teach their children their mother tongue language. If you cannot teach them, enrol them into classes nearby you to learn the language. Do not let anyone disrespect or marginalise our languages.
Be proud of your mother tongue language and love it. Our government has allowed our languages as additional languages, therefore write to school management to offer these till matric. I take this opportunity to congratulate Jaagruti Hindi Paatshala educators, Mrs Niksha Bositsumune- Dhanlall and Champa Bositsumune on their 100% pass rate and for upholding the quality of teaching Hindi. Blessed be our mother tongue educators.
