Mrs Rajbansi Leader of Minority Front attended the 15th anniversary of the Newlands Senior Citizens Club. She congratulated Mr Ishwar Dursen and his committed team. She commended him for his leadership and the interesting activities that the senior citizens engage in.
Mrs Rajbansi spoke about the role of parliament for holding a sectoral parliament for senior citizens and issues affecting older people which are debated. Resolutions are taken which change policies, programs and budgets that take care of our elderly.
She encouraged the seniors to go out and vote on August 3rd 2016 since 800 000 senior citizens are registered in KZN alone. “It is your right to vote and who you vote for is your secret”, said Mrs Rajbansi.
She praised older people for their guidance to society based on their experience and appreciated that many grandparents help to grow a family by taking care of their grandchildren, sick people and also those that do voluntary work where there are community challenges.
Finally Mrs Rajbansi called for all senior citizens to allocate one day in the year to celebrate Senior Citizens day apart from the 1st October which is International Day of the Older Persons.
