Pamper Day Event

Good morning everyone

How lovely is it to see all you precious women come out and take some time to spoil yourselves.

Today, I want to concentrate on wellness of the mind and safety.

With today’s living it is vital that we make our homes safer and keep a friendly environment should we have any emergencies and not much help available immediately.

Some examples are:

  1. A safety bell or an intercom can be very useful if you are trying to get someone’s attention especially if the space that you are in is away from the rest of the house.
  2. Keeping an emergency kit in a safe place fully stocked of all the essentials you will need for example first aid,
  3. Extra cash or family and friends contact numbers,
  4. Even spare sets of keys
  5. Hygiene essentials, everyone should have this.
  6. Make sure that you are constantly hydrated at all times and that your fridge is stocked up with energy drinks should you have a weak spell.
  7. Make sure that you tape down all area rugs, mats and carpets. These are a major trip-hazard for us all. If they’re not properly secured to the floor, they’re likely to buckle or roll up at the corners, which create hot spots for falls.
  8. De-clutter your main walking areas. The chaos of daily life can make it easy for clutter to pile up, but shoes, newspapers, clothes, books, etc. all contribute to the risk of falls and even injuries.
  9. Place nightlights in hallways and stairwells or at uneven flooring.
  10. As we age, we make more frequent trips to the restroom, especially during the night. To reduce tripping hazards, place nightlights in hallways leading to the bathroom.
  11. Also, make sure each step on the stairwell is well-lit to help anyone easily navigate the stairs when dark.
  12. Add non-slip mats in the kitchen and bathroom. The kitchen and bathroom are two places where it’s common to find water on the floor. Non-slip mats near the sinks and bathtub/shower will greatly reduce the risk of falls.
  13. Consider safety supports. Whether you need to add an additional railing on the stairs or install grab bars in the bathroom. These safety measures are just some of the things you should consider to remain independent and minimize the risk of being injured.

Finally enjoy your pampering, and keep spoiling yourself. The Minority Front wishes you long healthy living.

Thank you
