Hon Speaker, I shall move as follows,

Noting the draft Carbon Tax Bill scheduled for implementation by 2017 will earn treasury between R8 to R30 billion a year from taxes.

Further noting, Eskom which produces 47,5% (230million tons) of SA’s carbon emissions, stated that it cannot absorb the tax and will pass it on to the consumer,

This Hon House calls on National Treasury, to investigate an exemption for Eskom who are currently busy with developing and reinforcing the National Power Grid’s generation capacity, avoiding over-burdening our people.
