PRESS STATEMENT

The Minority Front has no other alternative but to issue this statement after the media report by The Post Newspaper yesterday (13, April 2016) detailing the conduct of MF PR councillor Ganas Govender during the National voter registration over the past weekend.

You are aware that On Sunday 10th April 2016, during the National Voter Registration period residents in the Havenside, Chatsworth Community reported Councillor Ganas Govender, who is paid through the MF, for canvassing for the Democratic Alliance, while handing out MF water bottles. Councillor Gannas, through his volunteers who were not in any party attire, advocated the interests of the DA by encouraging the public to vote for the same.

The Minority Front is also in possession of information which identifies a MF ward councillor in Phoenix who was seen in ANC regalia during the same voter registration weekend. We are further informed that another MF ward councillor in Phoenix is campaigning as an independent candidate for the upcoming Local Government Election, while other MF PR councillors are electioneering for newly formed parties. All this, while sitting as members of council under the Minority Front’s banner.

The Minority Front is alerting the electorate to the vices of these unscrupulous opportunists who want to mislead and misrepresent the party by manipulating and confusing our constituents. Their behaviour is unbecoming of public representatives and must be retorted with the scorn and contempt it deserves.

It is shameful that councillors are plotting the demise of the very organization that sustains them.

The community is urged to contact our offices to report any misrepresentation by sitting councillors and should not hesitate to openly name and shame these culprits.

The Minority Front is making a blunt and unapologetic announcement: These delinquents must have the pluck and confidence to openly canvas for the party that they wish to, without banking off the MF. They must do the honourable thing and resign from the MF and council, if they do not, then, disciplinary action will be instituted against them in due course.
