Parents are the most important protectors of a child. Children do not only need protection from physical and other types of abuse. They are exposed to countless social ills that enter into tour homes through social media, television, mobile communication and the dreaded World Wide Web.

Educational arena’s aim to enlighten children on issues of sexuality, substance abuse and promiscuity however this without the corporation of parents and the home environment sometimes have adverse effects.

Parents must screen what their children view and use. Technological resources are made available by parents hence training and protecting a child has to be first policed by the parent. Government has taken measures to protect children in South Africa and more is being done. However we cannot invade the privacy of family life to extremes.
