Mrs Shameen Thakur Rajbansi On Passing Of Dr Maya Angelou
Statement released by Mrs Shameen Thakur Rajbans, 29th May 2014.
Hailed a trailblazer for her thought provoking and insightful novel, “I know why the caged bird sings”, her globally acclaimed phenomenal woman, phenomenally speech and other remarkable literature pieces, Dr Maya Angelou will certainly live on for many generations to come. The world over mourns the death of a lady who fiercely faced opposition and tore to shreds, the very prospect of inequality through showing love and respect to those whom one would deem undeserving. Dr Maya was no ordinary soul. She had the unique ability to cause perpetual impacts like one generation calling out to another. Her work had the ability to penetrate more than just the mind of her reader or audience but like sparks of smitten steal, her words, would pierce the very moral conscience of a man, stepping into the premises of one’s spirit; into the basement of one’s belly and maybe even to the city of one’s soul. Her verbosity was not to be ostentatious but simple and true. As a leader within the confines of South African democracy, I am licensed to say, we join with the people of the United States of America and Dr Maya’s Family and mourn the loss this iconic individual but also celebrate a life well spent. We are certain that when her memorial convenes and when her mortal remains are laid to rest, all that was intended to be deposited to mankind by this great Lady would have been accomplished and she will lay to rest in peace knowing that she had emptied herself for the course she believed in. Dr Maya Angelou will not only be remembered for being a civil rights activist, poet, playwright, author, actress and singer but as a phenomenal woman that has inspired scores of leaders and ordinary folk to live phenomenally. Hon. Shameen Thakur-Rajbansi Minority Front Leader (Political Party – RSA ) i, Leader of the Minority Front, at the passing of Dr Maya Angelou.
