- Speaker, it emerged from this report that repairs to the Mobeni Heights Crematorium may only start next year, no definite date given or timeframes, despite our Honourable Mayor having promised 30th August 2025 as the start date. I can account for that date because this problem is existing for a very long time now, enough for the city to have been ready.
- Speaker, people from as far as Umkomaas and Umzinto have to travel to Clare Estate Crematorium to cremate their loved ones.
- Imagine the travelling arrangements, higher Crematorium fees and all other costs to poor families.
- The pure distress of it all will tell you the disservice to the Indian community by the city’s inaction in Chatsworth.
- A well-functioning Mobeni Heights Crematorium used to be the pride of the area.
- As there is nothing we can do now, I call upon our Honourable Mayor, as I did during my budget speech, to ensure that the repairs are fast-tracked.
