- The MF supports this extraordinary debt relief which shows a city committed to helping it’s people while still encouraging accountability to sustain itself.
- While one aim of the relief is to incentivize our people to pay their future accounts so that they don’t slip back into debt, the city must do its bit by:
- Fast-tracking the replacement of the RMS Billing system and eradicate inaccurate Billing
- Appointing a meter reading manager to reduce and finally expunge estimations
- Charge affordable tariffs
- Municipal employees to mobilize all payments from residents to perform exceedingly in their service provision
- Placing beneficiaries of this relief on the prepaid meter system to generate cash pre-service
- Increase capacity to identify indigents as the non-reporting of their indigence adds to the total consumer debt.
