Mrs. S. Thakur-Rajbansi, Minority Front Leader stated that, for the progress and preservation of human society we must give our mothers their due respect by fulfilling our duties towards them. To commemorate Mother’s Day, children should express their gratitude, not through the piling of material gifts. She added that this day signifies the celebration of the bond of love between mothers and children and the spirit of motherhood; therefore natural bonding should be the effort.

Mrs. Rajbansi said that the concept of Mother’s day should be an every day observance as mothers’ relentlessly perform their duties every day to ensure the  well-being, without fail, and without break of their children. Children need to be more sensitive and grateful and thank them often for the sacrifices they perform.

She touched on the scriptural references to Mothers, such as: that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), in addressing a man’s question on which parent is important, stressed thrice that “your mother” is most important; that Lord Jesus Christ honoured his mother on a continuous basis and that the Bible is very explicit on honouring both parents at all times; and in Mahabharata, Bhishma said the mother is the panacea for all kinds of calamities and ensures one with protection.

“Mothers are ones’ first guru who teach and inspire us, both spiritually and emotionally. As a guru removes one from darkness and ignorance, similarly our mothers teach us right from wrong,” added Mrs. Rajbansi.

Many people will come into our life, but our mother is the first presence in our world, and by loving us they teach us how to love ourselves and extend our love to others. Therefore, life will bring us many gurus and an abundance of other people, but our mothers’ influence and their role as the original guru will not waver. This reinforces why a mother will remain the role model to every child. Therefore, Mrs. Rajbansi urged children, young and old, to respect and care for their mother every day.
