In principle the Minority Front supports the re-opening of land claims and is of the view that there are still a number of South Africans who were not sufficiently capacitated to participate in the previous rounds of land restitution programmes which were implemented by the govt.

The Minority Front can support a process that has clearly defined objectives & compensation methods at the outset, and stresses the need for control & transparency as being paramount for this program to be successful.

The Minority Front supports the re-opening of land claims on pro-visio that previous applicants who’s claims have been rejected on technicalities, lack of supporting documentation, submissions after closing dates, etc, will be afforded the opportunity to re-apply.

The Minority Front is of the view that we have an opportunity to properly plan & structure this programme so that applicants do not experience the delays & frustrations of previous programmes. In order to achieve this, it is imperative that such a programme is managed by a dedicated unit within department of land affairs, having well trained and experienced staff manning this unit.

All aspects of this programme needs to be adequately budgeted for, within the MTEF with clear buy-in & support from National.
